About
Hi! I'm Sarah
I'm the creator of Save Mother. If you're like me, you may have been feeling down about the state of our planet and at a loss of what you can do to help the environment. As I was cleaning out my bathroom one day, it dawned on me: I'm surrounded by plastic. SO. MUCH. PLASTIC. I go through shampoo, conditioner, soap, face wash, toothpaste, ALL OF IT, like crazy! I had an epiphany, a lightbulb moment, an idea.
I asked myself, what if instead of buying bath products at $10-$20 per bottle every other week and filled with sulfates, parabens, and other toxins, I made my own shampoo? Organically. At home. Used resources from the community and from my own backyard. And what if, instead of constantly buying and tossing all those plastic bottles, I reused the same one for like, ever? Wouldn't that contribute to the environment in some small way? I dug deeper...
Roughly 550 million shampoo bottles wind up in the landfill every year in America. Less than 30% of bath related bottles are properly recycled, and only 1 in 5 people use some sort of consistent recycled bottle in their bathrooms.
WOW.
Making the switch from basically-single-use plastic shampoo bottles to Save Mother benefits the most important thing we know: Earth. If we responsibly use locally sourced ingredients that are actually good for our hair and bodies, we're doing ourselves AND our communities a favor. (economically boosting our region's farms, local markets, trade/purchase from our neighbors, etc)
I've put hours into the research and now, I need help.
I plan to launch Save Mother in March 2020. I'll have different types of completely organic, cruelty-free shampoo, conditioner, herbal hair rinses, and body washes/scrubs. Of course, all contents will be in 100% recycled glass or plastic and designed for continued reuse. No more tossing out old, empty bottles! One of the most important factors is that we are locally produced and distributed, therefore I'll be selling at LA's best farmers markets and use green shipping through my online store.
There are two options on how to get a refill on products:
1) Customers can choose to have their products made for them and refilled at farmers' markets. (in reused containers)
2) Customers can purchase product ingredients (provided by us) and create their own soaps at home!
I'm determined to help make a small difference in my community and for our planet. I strongly believe that big corporations need to step up for the environment, sadly, I do not think this will happen. It's up to us, the people, to make small yet significant changes in our lives in order to protect our home.
Join me. Join a movement. Save Mother.
